Fool Proof Brown Bread Recipe. You're Welcome...

All my “tried & true” recipes came from friends or family.

I still remember the day I sat down to a VERY full table of kids joining my friend Sandra, her 5 children and my 7 as she served this brown bread for lunch!  Wow, could they eat... and I was hooked!

Well... That was about 15 years ago, and I still make this recipe regularly.  I find bread is more simple to tackle than buns, especially if you don’t have a lot of time!

There is just something so wholesome and therapeutic about making, baking and eating bread. Enjoy!

Autumn Making Bread

Makes 4 loaves

Use a large bowl & stir together:

4 ½ Cups Warm Water

½ cup honey or molasses, or some of both!

1 cup ground flax

½ cup whole flax (you can also add other crunchy goodness like sunflower seeds)

5 cups brown flour

2 tbsp salt

2 cups quick oats

1 cup Olive Oil

2 rounded tbsp of quick rise yeast

Once the above are all combined, add white flour until you can no longer stir.  Continue to add white flour and knead until dough is no longer sticky.

Cover with plastic & tea towel and place in warm area for approx. 30-40 minutes, until dough is about double in size

Cut into 4 equal pieces and place in greased bread pans

Again, Cover with plastic & tea towel and place in warm area for approx. 30-40 minutes or util the dough is about and 1” or so higher than the bread pan

Bake at 350 degrees for approx. 45 minutes.
